Music Crossroads Academy Mozambique in Maputo received the well-known Portuguese producer Carlos Bartilotti for a workshop in Musical Careers Management.

The Portuguese producer started his career in music management by following his passion and love for music. Bartilotti then decided to make his passion his profession and started working for the Ministry of Culture in Macau, in the film programming area and as a music producer. Six years later, he returned to Portugal to start his own business, Bartilotti Production. Realising that representing artists was not enough to keep the company running, he decided to become a producer of major events and festivals as well as an album editor. More recently, in 2015, Carlos founded Araujo and Bartilotti Arts Lda Company with his Brazilian partner. They produced the MIMO Festival of World Music. Carlos is convinced, that a cultural manager must work in several areas in the arts and culture sector in order to have enough income to keep the company running.

This year, Carlos Bartilotti travelled to Mozambique to give a Musical Career Management Workshop. The workshop was a great experience for this well-travelled producer but also especially for the participants. The topics covered included: what it means to be a cultural manager and what it means to be an artist, the role each of them plays in the music sector, the process to go through in order to create and produce an album, advices on how to present well on stage, etc. The students were eager to learn and benefited from the producer’s knowledge. It was very interesting for them to see how a successful cultural manager has kept his business running by being diverse and doing several different jobs in music to make a living.
