Emmanuel Maneno Shibanguissimo (Roy), joined the Music Crossroads Academy Mozambique, where he studies bass, in 2013. Roy is a Mozambican bassist from Maputo and he believes that the body percussion lessons are very important to its evolution as a musician. We had the pleasure to ask him for his experience at the Body Percussion lessons.
– Did you ever had Body Percussion classes?
Roy: Yes, I’ve had Body Percussion classes. I attended my first class when the Academy was still in Matola, in 2013.
– Describe the experience of joining a Body Percussion class.
Roy: The Body Percussion classes are very good, however I had some difficulties to adapt to the lessons because it was something new to me. But I learned a lot, with the help of my classmates and teachers, they have always been very tolerant with me.
– Do you like the Body Percussion classes? Why?
Roy:Yes, I like the lessons a lot. In the classes we learn how to use our body and how to use it for musical purposes. These classes also help me a lot to understand the rhythm; besides, it helps me to keep focused, when I am performing.
– What kind of benefits do you believe the Body Percussion lessons will bring to your music career?
Roy: The body percussion classes will bring incalculable benefits to my music career, especially for me as a bass player. I have used the exercises of body percussion lessons during my bass classes, here at the Academy, which has also contributed to my evolution.
