Two alumni of Music Crossroads Academy in Malawi enhanced their pedagogical and professional knowledge in music through a two week Training Campus that took place in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The two alumni, Jacob Jana and Sanderson Mphapo, attended the campus together with MCA teachers from Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Their exceptional performance and seriousness in pursuing a music career earned them this golden opportunity.
Earlier this year, Jana and Mphapo, returned from the Musicians and Organisers Volunteer Exchange (MOVE) Program in Norway and Mozambique respectively. Since their return from the MOVE program, Jana and Mphapo took up roles of mentorship and teaching on a voluntary basis at the Academy. Their enthusiasm to volunteer is a gesture that MCA cherishes. Through the MOVE program, Jana went to Norway and was enrolled at Trondertun Folkehogskole, a Folk Music High School, where he got further music training.
Mphapo was an exchange student at the MCA Mozambique, where he was an assistant teacher. According to both Jana and Mphapo, the exchange program was a good experience and a perfect medium of learning more about music and other people’s culture.
The experiences and lessons that they gained this year, from attending the Campus, will be of importance, not only for their personal growth, but for the entire music education, music landscape and to the artistic community of Malawi.
