Norwegian Ambassador praises MC Malawi
During the launching of the first ever Music Academy in the country, Norwegian Ambassador Asbjorn Eidhammer in Malawi said “Malawians are musically oriented, but lack formal institutions where they could receive professional training. My hope is to see that the academy is utilised and see graduates emerging from the academy with so much knowledge that they can take where ever they go”.
He added that it was the pleasure of the Nowergian Embassy to be part of such a life changing institution such as the Music Crossroads Academu and he hoped to see musicians taking full advantage of the academy.
The Director of Culture, at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Elizabeth Gomani Chindevu said Music Crossroads Malawi provides the youth of Malawi with a unique opportunity and platform to realise their full potential and meet experienced and professional musicians who offer practical lessons and professional advice.
“The Ministry of Tourism and Culture commends Music Crossroads on the launch of the academy and it has been launched at an opportune time when Government has put the ministry as a top priority to help regain the economy of the country through tourism attraction”, has been said.
The Director of Music Crossroads Malawi, Mr. Mathews Mfune, added classes commenced on April 8, 2013 and the launch was just to add more value to the academy that government and other top officials are in full support.
“The academy is there to compliment the Chancellor College which offers Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) so the academy will help students who did not manage to meet the standards of entering into the University of Malawi”, Mfune said.
The Music Crossroads program was introduced in Malawi in 2000 under the Department of Arts and Crafts, in the Ministry of Sports and Culture. Initially, the Department of Arts and Crafts, was given the responsibility to oversee its establishment until in 2007, when all activities were coordinated by the Department of Arts and Crafts.
