Music Crossroads is proud to congratulate Mary Anibal for being awarded ZIMBABWE MUSIC AWARDS BEST TRADITIONAL ARTIST (CHINYAKARE) 2023.

From an early age, Mary Anibal has performed on many stages. She started her professional career in 2016 as a mbira session musician and her moment of reckoning came in 2017 when she performed at the Harare International Festival Of Arts (HIFA) with Soa Roy, a group from Madagascar, and Forest Jam. Since then, the Music Crossroads Academy alumna has grown as a vocalist, mbira player and percussionist who, since 2021, has been a part of Jah Prayzah’s 3G Band. Her solo career launched in 2020 with the release of her debut single ‘Bhonzo Muderere’. Following this, she released three more, namely ‘Gogoride’, ‘Mvura’ and ‘Narini’. A major highlight was performing at the 2022 Jacaranda Music Festival, in Harare, where she caught the eyes of many. Mary Anibal’s music inspires change – it comes from the desire for societal transformation. The Afro-fusion artist is a voice for the voiceless who inspires people from all walks of life through world music that blends folk and traditional music. Her vision is to build on the legacy of legends like Chiwoniso Maraire who left a void in the industry for someone with her sound and energy to speak hope into people’s lives.
