Mozambique opens a Music Crossroads Academy!
The Music Crossroads Academy in Mozambique has opened with orientation sessions between teachers and the newly arrived students. Prior to the official start of classes on 9th April, the new Academy near the capital, offered to students a chance to learn in detail the structure of the course, the curriculum and evaluation system, ask questions and get acquainted with the teachers and the staff. The Academy has 22 students, while a new audition will be hold for those candidates currently applying.
“The curriculum is very ambitious and will completely change the musical consciousness of students. Additionally, it serves as preparation for those who intend to continue studying in major higher music education schools later. As a result of the course, we will have many musicians able to respond to the demands of the international market, as well as developing the Mozambican music, which is quite diverse”, says Nicholas Caueneque, our piano teacher at the Academy.

“I believe at the academy I will become a more complete artist, while also learning life skills. The Mozambican society will also gain from the knowledge we will acquire and the art we will share”, says student Beauty Sitoe Alves, who plays Mbira but considers her voice to be her favourite musical instrument.
Pedagogical coordinator, Terêncio Alberto Tovela, believes the Academy will be very esteemed by the Mozambican society, including the government as well, as he adds: “We must all work together towards its success. Furthermore, we hope that students also work hard to achieve it”.

Besides holding its first classes this week, the MC Academy in Mozambique will soon be conducting extracurricular activities like small shows with bands made up of its students.
