Music Crossroads Academy Malawi recently welcomed three new Associate Teachers.
Lynne Mussah (Keyboard), Sanderson Mphapo (Bass Guitar) and Harold Semani (Bass Guitar), all alumni of the programme, began their teaching duties at the reopening of the 2017 academic year. Lynne Mussah and Sanderson Mphapo participated in the Teacher Training Campus facilitated by Global Music Academy in Zimbabwe in November/December 2016.
Before attending the training in 2016 in Zimbabwe, some of the alumni volunteered as Instrument Instructors and Music Teachers at the Academy. Some of the projects included the Chimphamba Music Project in Mchinji district, through which the promising new Associate Teachers gained first-hand teaching experience.

The alumni, who also work as musicians and sound engineers, are a great resource for the Academy. Their addition to the staff has increased the number of teachers to eight, which is a much-needed development for the Academy’s programmes.
In addition to teaching their respective courses, the associates will also help prepare students for competitions and performances, and oversee student ensemble training.

The alumni expressed their excitement with their new functions. Lynne Mussah said:
“I left my home in Balaka district some years ago to seek a music education at the Music Crossroads Academy in Lilongwe. Music was my dream career and teaching music is a great opportunity that I shall always cherish. Music Crossroads Academy gave me exactly what I have been looking for and I will give it back by being the best Associate Teacher the institution could ever have”.
Commenting on the development, the Head of Pedagogy, Mr. E. Mwalwanda, expressed confidence that the three new Associate Teachers would make a valuable contribution to the team. He went on to say that it was pleasing to see his former students making remarkable progress in their musical careers.
Welcome, Lynne, Sanderson and Harold!
