let’s rewind a bit to today

The Music Crossroads Academy project was established in 2013, with the goal of enriching the music sector in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe by providing relevant, affordable and accessible quality music education to young talented musicians. There has been significant and continuous growth since the opening of the Music Crossroads academies’ doors, with increasing number of students enrolled, better facilities provided and teachers being trained annually to provide a quality Professional Certificate Program to its dedicated students.

The 2014 Teacher Training Campus successfully trained music teachers from 6 countries, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. For the first time; there were female teachers among the,. 3 talented women made substantial progress at the campus, proving significant for the academies, aiming at establishing a well-balanced gender mixture within the teaching staff.

Based on the local level, the quality of the music knowledge provided, both theoretical and practical, provided to students has significantly increased over the past 2 years.

New initiatives have been made over the course of the year; with additional instruments and courses being implemented in the Professional Certificate Program. In each of the MC Academies, Resource Centers were established in the first year have since been continually upgraded and equipped with new materials based on local needs. Each of the academies has soundproof labs fitted with relevant equipment, which the students use for practice.

The high level of education provided at the Music Crossroads Academies has proven important, as several students from the Academies have been able to use what they have learnt through the academy curriculum to establish themselves and start professional careers in Music. A former student became a national winner of a high profile music competition in Malawi and others have been able to use their background course at the MCA to gain entry at higher education, in Universities both in Mozambique and Zimbabwe. A few former students have attained music-teaching jobs at schools, being able to earn a living with their talent. With positive results and great feedback received from students and teachers alike, the Music Crossroads Academies are on their way to becoming a musical force on the continent!

By donating an annual scholarship you can give someone the chance to make a living through his or her music by offering a quality accredited program, access to top class instruments and facilities and inspiring, dedicated teachers. Our objective is to support 85 students per year with 12-month scholarships.
