Mozambican women’s day is a celebration that commemorates the late Josina Machel, wife of the first President who brought independence to Mozambique. She is considered one of the heroines who gave her life to fight for the independence of her country. In this way, it is marked as a day that celebrates a female empowerment, strengths and highlights their significant role in society.
This year, the academy is proud to announce that it has 50% female enrollment into the Professional Certificate course. Therefore, Music Crossroads Mozambique Academy could not miss the opportunity to celebrate this special day with its academy students, teachers and the public.
The event took place on April 8, 2016 , with students, teachers, performances. The event also featured a special performance by Ildo Nandja from Mozambique, playing bass, and the pianist Salene Phakathi from South Africa.
The MC academy female students gave a memorable concert, with their beautiful voices on display. There was also a special performance by the Pedagogical Director, Terencio Tovela, who dedicated his guitar and vocal piece performance to all women.
It was a wonderful day for academy students, teachers, admin and the public alike. Thank you to everyone who participated and who came to show support for the young female musicians. We look forward to celebrating this special occasion together again next year!
