Dindingwe communicates its music mostly in Shona, the mother tongue in Zimbabwe. Their music is inspired by folklore, struggles in African societies, and appreciation of Zimbabwe’s heritage. The band’s name “Dindingwe”, means cheetah, an animal they feel embodies their drive and passion for expressing themselves through their artistic work. The group members began to play together in January of 2016 and later on emerged as the 2016 Imagine Zimbabwe National Final winners.
Dindingwe created their own African style of sound, which can be described as afro-contemporary. Most of their inspiration comes from the African society, in which they hope to make a difference through music. In the next 5 years, they want to be more than a band, but to be a brand, as they become big stars.
Members of the ensemble are Mutize Simangaliso on Mbira and Vocals, Sunguro Archford on Piano and Percussions, Chinosengwa Freedom on Bass, Tayt Viya Tatenda on Piano, Mukundu Takakunda on guitar and Shadreck Dzuwa Prince on Drums.
