Academy students to take a shot at Project Goalmouth
In what could possibly be a great start to their year, the academy students have a chance to participate in a project that could see them touring Europe sometime this year. Project Goalmouth, funded by the UNHCR and British Council is a football plus music centered project that is run every four years after the World Cup. There will be a combination of three categories; music, dance and theatre, and participants who exhibit strength in at least two of these aspects stand a greater chance.
This is the first time the project has come to Malawi, and it will be a great opportunity for many young people to participate in what is probably a great combination for most young people: music and football. The project in Malawi will involve refugees from Dzaleka camp in Dowa, Lilongwe, hence UNHCR’s involvement in it.
The organizers of Project Goalmouth from UNHCR and the British Council went to Music Crossroads Academy Malawi to spark interest in the students to attend a workshop/recruiting session taking place on 2nd August in Lilongwe. The workshop will see over 300 young people above 18 years from Lilongwe participating, after which only 50 young people will be recruited to be part of the 250 people cast. The final musical will be showcased on August 31st in Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa, Lilongwe.
