As part of the Creative Training Campus, Music Crossroads organised in November 2016 a Capacity Building Workshop where participants learned how to build and repair music instruments.

The Workshop covered topics such as maintenance and repair for both electric and acoustic instruments including woodworking, replacing worn or broken nuts, saddles, frets, tuners and electronic components.

The 10 days Workshop facilitated by Hans Geerdink combined theoretical and hands-on activities, extending the participants knowledge of materials, tools and techniques.

“I learned how to properly set up a guitar, how to maintain it and ensure it’s in good conditions”

As a result, the participants fixed many different electric and acoustic guitars and amplified mbiras under the assistance of the facilitator. They now have the knowledge and the tools to continue practicing until the next Workshop in 2017.

“One of the most important learning for me was to work on the amplification of the mbira, a very traditional instrument of Zimbabwe”
