Ano Zero is a preparatory program created to provide basic musical knowledge to beginner students. The aim of the program is to equip all students with tools, methodologies and knowledge to benefit their musical development.
Ano Zero has a duration of six months. Teachers believe that this amount of time is enough to provide essential basic information so students can, after that, enrol in the complete music degree of Music Crossroads Academy. The first Ano Zero program began on November 2nd, 2015 and will finish at January 20th, 2016. Soon after, the students will make an audition to assess their new skills and abilities in music.
Ano Zero has a total of 7 subjects: Voice, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Melodic Reading and Writing, Rhythmic Reading and Writing and Harmony.
According to the teachers Américo and Terêncio, the students have some difficulties in assimilating the given professional curriculum. Therefore, they thought of developing a program that would enable students to start from the bottom. This can ensure better quality of both teaching and learning, as well as providing better training and education.
According to some students at the Academy, they are motivated to be a part of Ano Zero. They confirm that, even after closing the past year’s curriculum, they continued with some difficulties. Therefore, they are satisfied and enthusiastic to learn more in order to erase all difficulties and become more professional musicians.
With the implementation of Ano Zero we hope to achieve great results for both students and teachers. With this inclusive teaching program we aim to ensure a prosperous future and a good development of music education in Mozambique.
